Louisville Day Two

I woke up and went for an uneventful run around the university of Louisville while Nina and dad went on a bagel hunt. They came back frustrated by the lack of open coffee shops in the area.

Our air bnb house and Nina's excellent photography skills.

After breakfast we went to the Conrad Caldwell Mansion for a tour.
On the way we toured the lovely architecture of Saint James Place.

The Conrad Caldwell
We were able to trick the tour guide into showing us the attic and basement.
The tour guide of the mansion was a descendent of one the historic owners of the house which made for some interesting stories.

I bought this shirt when I was 14. I'm still a big fan. Also, I don't go tanning. I just spend more time outside than she does.
We scored some lunch just in the nick of time at Fontelroy's with the threat of a hunger crisis and low blood sugar looming.
The food in Louisville is rich and meaty.

We picked up some hats and made our way to Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby.

But first, we made a pit stop to one our dead president's graves, Zachary Taylor.

Sporting my new derby hat at the Zachary Taylor monument.
Can you spot the ghost in this sarcophagus?

They relocated Mr. Taylor aka "old rough and ready" to new fancier lodgings. They couldn't fool us though.

The old sarcophagus. No one is in here now.

Taylor and his wife's new spot. Apparently even in death we must deal with moving.
At least they had free movers.

Military cemeteries are orderly.

Churchill Downsers

These horses haul serious ass.

After they run their mile, a team of Mexican looking folks cool them down, put a blanket on them, and you can pet them and their helper horses.

Hanging out in the "winner's circle".

So fast!!

Don't try to go out to dinner on a Saturday in Louisville with no reservation. We were turned away from about five restaurants. Finally we found Louvino. It was awesome and we only had to wait about 20 minutes for our table.

All in all, it was a good day in Louie. Tomorrow we conclude our tour with a visit to the famous Cave Hill Cemetery.

  1. Um. I took a better picture than that. That was the first one.

  2. I think it was St James Place, not St Pauls.
