Day Three: Oklahoma to Texas

My friend and I grabbed some snacks at the Tulsa farmer's market next to whole foods. We had planned on grabbing breakfast from the whole foods prepared foods buffet but were sorely disappointed with the options. The Whole Foods prepared foods buffet in Nashville is one of our favorite spots to eat. When I travel I often assume that other whole foods will measure up. I have not yet found one that does in multiple states, all over this country. The farmer's market was quite nice though. I got some local honey and some fermented krauts for my drive.

Did you know the architect Frank Lloyd Wright built a house in Tulsa? He did. He built it for his cousin who shares the middle name of Lloyd in 1929 and it is called "Westhope".

It's a private residence. We just drove around it like stalkers.
Back at the ranch (most houses in Tulsa are ranches), I got a tour of friend's husband's silk screen studio in their garage. Silk screening is awesome!
We are posing in front of the special washing station. The sled is unrelated but matches quite well.
And then I packed my car up and was off for the final leg of my journey to Houston. The Native American thing is a big deal in Oklahoma. In addition to many native american names, there was an abundance of casinos large and small such as the one featured at a gas station in the photo below.

As I neared the end of Oklahoma I noticed signs and businesses referring to "Texoma". I first experienced Texas hybrids when I visited Arkansas for a vacation and learned about Texarkana. Texoma is another version. We don't make this kinds of hybrids in the northeast. That's probably because our states are so small it's unnecessary and also the names of the states don't mesh nicely. For example, Connectachusetts (Connecticut + Massachusetts) is neither catchy nor necessary.

And then, I was in Texas.

Texas was fairly easy to navigate and the speed limit really is 75!!! I hit a bit of rush hour traffic in Dallas, but nothing to cry about. By 8:30 pm I arrived at our condo in Houston in one piece with three dogs. The next trip will occur in a week or so when I leave Houston, head to New Orleans, Mississippi, and Alabama, before arriving home in Tennessee. That should be interesting. In the meantime I'll try to post about my Texas experience.
